Independence War II - Edge of Chaos | Universe Pirate Adventure Game
Independence War II - Edge of Chaos is a very challenging 3D flight PC game of a universe pirate role play, developed by Inforgrames in 2001. In this game the main character is a universe pirate taking the career of intercepting transport ships for precious cargo pods and gradually gets his adventure involved into a massive universal war. Because of its high difficulty, this classic game is nearly forgotten in the world. But I feel it’s highly worth recommendation for a universe adventure game lover. Lots of interesting features in this great game are as follow.
- Wonderful Galaxy Rendering
- Universe Pirate Role Play
- Cargo-to-Cargo Trade for Spaceship Components
- Free Missions: Cargo Robbery
Different from many universe RPG game, this game has only cargo-to-cargo trade, i.e. no “money”. You need to get cargo pods containing goods such as water, meat and etc to trade for all upgraded components of your spaceship. This is the most interesting common job in this game. The best stuffs usually requires very precious cargo such as anti-matter which is only available on the transporters protected by a strong fleet in some very far galaxies.
To get cargo pods, you need to wait near star gates where transporters usually travel through and give a sudden strike on transporters. The transporters will drop cargo pods and beg for stopping fire if they get enough damage. Do not destroy the transporter or cargo pods, or the resulted explosion may destroy the cargo and even your spaceship. After defeating the fleet protecting the transporter nearby, you can call your friend to help you pick all pods dropped to the space to your base, or carry one cargo pod by your own spaceship.
The main missions are actually more and more challenging than pirating. I should say it’s the most difficult flight game I’ve ever played and that’s why this very classic game was not as famous as its follower - Freelancer, another universe adventure game. In some of main missions, you have limited time and must use your wisdom to take very careful sneak to avoid getting noticed by enemies. Sometimes you need to remote control a tiny spacecraft for some special mission. And in some of main missions, you have to avoid a huge crowd of mines chasing you in 10 times of your speed, or you’ll die immediately in a massive explosion. All missions are full of special adventures. You’ll never feel bored but frustrated if not skillful enough. Independence War II is exactly a perfect game for professional players who used to feel bored of the ease in other flight games.
